Indian government officials stated on June 27th that India and the United States have decided to end their trade dispute, further strengthen trade relations, and lift retaliatory tariffs on various products, including steel and aluminum.
On March 8, 2018, US President Trump signed an announcement imposing a 25% tariff on imported steel products and a 10% tariff on imported aluminum products, which officially came into effect on March 23, 2018.
Shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington, both India and the United States made a decision to end retaliatory tariffs. The US has promised to waive 70% of retaliatory tariffs on steel imports and 80% of retaliatory tariffs on aluminum.
In response, the Indian side announced the cancellation of retaliatory tariffs on 28 American products.
